Where do you look first when researching a beauty product?
Be sure to weigh in on the new poll I have up in the sidebar. I’d love to know where you look first to research a beauty product you are thinking of buying–beauty mag, beauty blog, both or neither. (If the latter then I would have to wonder what you are here for besides my charm and wit?!)
After you cast your vote, feel free to post a comment here with your thoughts about your answer. Personally, I go to beauty blogs only and the ones I trust (see sidebar of beauty links).

I’d have to say neither. Internet is certainly my medium of choice, simply in terms of convenience (searching for a particular product in a magazine? That might take me some time, plus the articles tend to resemble ads more often than they do reviews). Of course, I’ll read a blog post if I stumble upon one, but my main source of information are tons and tons of user reviews. The amount of information is what counts, because I probably don’t have the same type of skin (or hair) that a single reviewer does (nor do I live in the same climate etc., you get the picture). So I read a few of the positive reviews and then skip to the negative ones, just to see what kinds of problems people have experienced with the product, if any.
I can easily see whether the information is relevant to me (for example, if a person complains of irritation and mentions that the moisturizer contains fragrance, I know to steer clear of it).
Of course, I trust some bloggers a great deal, but it’s very unlikely one of them might have reviewed the product I’m researching - there are simply too many products out there!

I’ll usually see something from all the blogs I read, waiting for others to review new products before I purchase them; Makeup Alley is a great source as well.

I’ll usually go to Specktra.net or google “reviews for …” which points me to all types of websites and blogs.

i tend to go to beauty blogs because i feel they’re more honest and sincere in trying to help viewers. With magazines, i think they get pressure from sponsers to put their products in a good light resulting in not so fair reviews for us.
