Victoria’s Secret Beauty: Makeup Secrets of the Red Carpet
As the very gorgeous Heidi Klum gets ready to walk down the Red Carpet at the Oscar’s, I asked Victoria’s Secret Beauty’s makeup artist Linda Hay for some tips to being red carpet ready:
Shannon: How do celebrities like Heidi Klum keep their skin matte when under the California sun and bright lights of the red carpet?
Linda Hay: Start with an oil-free moisturizer and choose sheer foundations and concealers like my favorites from Very Sexy Makeup, which don’t cake and flake, and allow skin to breathe. To minimize shine as the night wears on, keep blotting papers and power in your evening bag.
Shannon: Which products are used to prevent their eyeshadow from creasing and mascara from smudging during the countless hours they are wearing it at the Oscars?
Linda Hay: To make your eye makeup last, make sure you apply liner and shadow after you’ve prepared the eye with a light touch of concealer and powder, which will allow the color to set and adhere. Wear the mascara that you love and won’t flake after a long day of work, as a red carpet event lasts just as long. My new favorite is the Very Voluptuous Mascara from Victoria’s Secret. To maintain your look, check your makeup every hour. If you have enough room in your evening bag, add a small shadow compact to create a mid-evening touch-up kit. If you have limited room in your clutch, take blotting sheets, a powder compact with mirror, a small blush brush to apply the powder and prevent eye creases, and finish with your lip gloss or lipstick of choice.

I find that if I add concealer and powder to the eye lids before shadow, it gets flaky and clumpy…so I use silicone primer on my eye lids and it keeps them flake free and the shadow lasts much longer.

I love love love Heidi and her bangs (they are two entities, lol) and can’t wait to try her makeup line @ VS. Also, a LOT of MUAs are beginning to advocate blotting paper over powder — it really is less mess. I’ve heard VV mascara is alot like DiorShow.

The Very Sexy Makeup actually looks very good! Honestly, I’d never expect that type of makeup coming from Victoria’s Secret.

The tip about sheer foundation is right on. I started using tinted moisturizer instead of true foundation a few months ago and I look much fresher, more “red carpet ready” if you will.
