    Hi Amanda,

For me, a natural day makeup is something clean and classic that you can wear to work, meaning that it’s not over the top. I always think of smart, well-groomed eyebrows, a clean yet subtle wash of color on the eyes, rosy blush, flawless skin, and a glossy but not overpowering lip.

For an evening look, I’ve always thought of it this way: since it’s dark out, I like to play up the drama of my makeup. Think: depth in your eyeshadow contours (whether a smoky eye, or a cat eye liner), a more flushed blush, or a sexy red lip!

However, for an evening look, focus on one feature to highlight, in order to avoid looking like a clown. There’s nothing worse than having smoky crazy eyes, huge deep blush, and russian red lips. Instead, if you choose your eyes, leave your lips nude. Or if you do your lips, be sure and have a really simple and fresh eye makeup.

    Hope it’s helpful!

I think Julie hit everything on the spot. For me, I make my “natural look” neutral enough so that I can build on it when I go out at night. Usually that means more colorful eyeshadow over my “natural” taupe color in the day.

As Julie said, it’s about the flawless skin for the natural look. To make it an “evening” look, i like to put more shimmer to the brow bone and the cheeks.

Julie said it all. My makeup during the day is very natural and light. I put on a little foundation, blush, mascara and gloss. Keep it simple and fresh. My night look is more dramatic. i like to play with dark eyeshadows like purples and greens and fake lashes. Your night look should be fun so add some drama and color.

I think that your coloring makes a big difference. For a woman with strong contrast between skin color and hair color, it is easier to wear a bit more makeup (day and night) and not look overdone. For evening, I think that it can look unbalanced to have dramatic eyes and too understated a mouth. But, I do agree that strong blush seems to tip the scales into clown-land. However, strong eyes and strong lips can work - it’s very retro 1940s and can be extremely sophisticated.
I may just be speaking for myself; personally I cannot wear a nude/pale/natural mouth without looking really weird.

i agree with julie all the way. just think: less during the day & more at night. i also love the tip about highlighting only one feature at night , this makes it very easy to do a 5-10 minute update to nightly look.

I love a neutral palette for day; light foundation, a few swipes of mascara and a nice pinky lipgloss. For night I like to glam it up with a smokey eye or a red lip. Night is also a good time to experiment, maybe with colored mascara or contoured blush.

Daytime Natural is pretty minimalist in my mind. Light dusting of mineral or your basic powder be it regular or bronzing…Now add Mascara and a bit of gloss. Make sure to brush your brows.
UMM! Evening..I like the glamor. Add some neutral toned shadows and jazz up your lips. Take a deeper bronzing powder on the outer half of your cheek bone and make sure your brows are perfectly filled in.
