Makeup Monday: Your Makeup Questions Answered

by Shannon on January 28th, 2008

false lashes
Blended lashes? Not so much.

I’d like to know how to apply false eyelashes to make them not so false-looking. In other words, how can you make them blend in more naturally with your regular lashes, and what type of eyeliner/shadow should you wear with them. ” Kori E. (ShoeBlitz)

As with last week’s photo–this is not Kori! If it was I’d probably put a black privacy line across her eyes after I had a good laugh for myself.

If you’ve learned the art of applying false lashes and giving them the look of being real, please share your tips with Kori in the comments.

hey, i rmb having my face done by a professional before, what she did was attached them separately.
Like split it into 4 or something and put them at proper positionings. Then she applied mascara so that they’d look more natural =)

I haven’t quite figured it out, either, but I’ve learned that the more natural ones are almost a waste of time, because they simply recreate what a really, really, really good mascara should already do. thus I usually use fake eyelashes when I’m going for the superdramatic.

i like using half or partial lashes myself, they can look very natural & also dramatic all depending on the makeup. a MAC trainer/artist had shown me a technique of adding the lashes under your top lashes rather than over them. the application is the same but be careful to use less adhesive so avoid excess going into your eye. it looks great and i find easier to do. the result is softer because you don’t see the fake lash line even with NO makeup on your eyes.

Trisha great tip. I never thought of doing that with the lashes. I don’t like when they look too obvious with the fake lash line. This sounds like it’ll solve the problem. Thanks.

Also, MAC has alot of falsie-friendly mascaras - I believe PlushLash is the one that works best? To me, the best technique is to get individual lashes and just apply them as needed. I love to put false lashes on my outer corners (using tweezers and a magnified mirror). It’s really old-school cool (think Bardot) and does a great job opening up your eyes.

Whoa, that pic is crazy! Those look so uncomfortable. I’ve only worn fakes on Halloween. Although I’ve know gals who use individual lashes (not the whole strip) for going out and it looked great, but too much trouble for me.
