Besame Cosmetics Sculpture Lash Mascara

by Shannon on April 4th, 2007

mascaraLast week I recieved Besame Cosmetics new mascara Sculpture Lash in both Black and Plum. It was unexpected and I was excited to give it a try since I have loved everything I have tried from Besame so far.

What they say it does:

With just one coat, its superb mousse-like consistency lifts, curls and separates while adding extraordinary length and intense volume to create thick luxurious lashes.

Added Benefits:

· A conditioning film for maximum curl, leaving lashes soft and supple, never stiff.

· Silicone polymers to lengthen and thicken lashes for a full and natural look.

· Pro-vitamin B5 and Keratin to moisturize the lashes.

· Rosea Root Extract with anti-aging compounds to strengthen the lashes and hair shaft.

· A fixing film that forms an ultra-luxurious water-resistant coating on lashes.

What I thought:

There is definitely no way to get the above with just one coat. I applied several coats, as I would normally with any of the mascara’s I use. The mousse-like consistency really just looked like any other mascara formula, I honestly didn’t notice a difference. It also does smudge easily if you happen to rub your eyes.

It did add some volume and it coated every lash. Of course, the packaging of this mascara is gorgeous in its gold bottle. I liked using the Plum the best because it really brought out my hazel eye color. At first I thought I was going to be gung-ho 1988 with purple lashes, but it is a deep purple that really appears to look black when worn. Obviously if you have blonde or red lashes, the purple would probably be more apparent. The purple hue really does add some pop to your eyes.

I have to say that I was a little disappointed. I hadn’t really encountered any cons with their products yet, but this mascara is not as wonderful as all of their other products.

10 opinions for Besame Cosmetics Sculpture Lash Mascara

Wow, I had pretty much the same results with this mascara as you did! I had read a couple of other reviews that were very good, and thought maybe I had received a bad tube, so Besame is sending me a new one to try. But after reading your review, I think maybe my first tube was fine after all.
I bought the black, and even with it’s shortcomings, I am intrigued by the plum now, as I also have hazel eyes. Maybe I will exchange the black for the plum, for special occasions when i can take the time with application that this mascara needs.
    Thanks for the review!

I carry Besame in my boutique, and was very excited to finally have the mascara in stock. I used the Plum first, which I loved. I got great length and the color is just fantastic. I also noticed that it did not smudge all day long. This is a big problem for me, I hate smudging, so I was excited when the Plum didn’t smudge. The same can not be said for the black, oh dear, it smudge terribly. I am now trying it with the Face Atelier primer which has stopped my other mascara from smudging, fingers crossed. As for only using one coat, I would not know, I love mascara and always apply 2-3 coats. So my verdicts: Love the plum, trying to love the black.

Thanks everyone for leaving a comment.

Ginny–that’s why this blog is here, to really get down to the basics–does it work or not, or is it somewhere in between. :)

Violet–that’s weird that you had the same effect on the smudging, just with a different color. What I did in regards to the one coat, was to first just apply one coat and see if it accomplished what Besame said it would. When it didn’t, I applied 3 more coats as I normally would. How does the face primer work on the mascara not smudging? I’d be interested to know. ;)

I agree Ellen. I love all of their products–such great pigmentation in them. So I was disappointed to by this mascara. :(

The packaging really is gorgeous. Fortunately there are other great mascaras out there so we can just vote Besame as best in packaging! ;)

When i trid this I, it left my lashes looking very pretty. It did smudge a bit, but i’m not sure if it’s because i rubbed my eye or it just smudged on its own.

Ugh oh. I am so anti-smudging. I have absolutely no tolerance for it. This one isn’t going on my to-try list. Too bad, cause it’s such a gorgeous little mascara tube!
