Benefit Cosmetics BADgal Blue Mascara

by Shannon on December 26th, 2007

badgal blue mascaraFinally! I finally got Benefit Cosmetics BADgal Blue. I honestly never thought I’d see the day. I was just way too scared of feeling all Debbie Gibson wearing this deep blue violet mascara. If you just said, “Debbie who?” then go look her up on Wikipedia–if you know who I mean (and not just because of Skating with Celebrities), feel old with me.

It was the beginning of this year that Benefit launched this product and I was skeptical about it. So now that I finally have it, let me share my thoughts.

BADgal Blue isn’t the bright blue of mascara’s past, it’s more deep and darker in hue. You can see the blue if you are up close, but from a normal distance it only appears black, so no worries that you will look strange with blue eyelashes. I have hazel eyes and it definitely makes my eye color stand out more, I definitely loved that effect.

I do think that the mascara brush head is way too big. We’re talking a half to almost a full head bigger than your typical mascara brush. Not just length-wise, but in circumference as well. It does take several coats of mascara to give the appearance of what many mascara’s do in 1-2 coats. Once it’s on it looks great for your eye color, but it doesn’t lengthen or add volume.

I’m thinking I may use my Kanebo 38 degrees C Mascara and apply BADgal Blue over it. I’m addicted to making my eye color stand out, but want my lashes to kick butt too.

If you have used this product, what did you think?

I have the traditionals BadGal mascara and eye khol, and I love them! At first I didnt get well with the brush of the mascara, but now I got used to. But one thing I’m addicted on is use 2 or 3 different mascaras at the same time, each one with a different purpose. So I usually use Max Factor 2000 calories + Bourjois Yes to Volume + BadGal. The lashes get beautiful! I cant wait to try the blue version, I tend to like blue mascaras on me, and by the description you gave, its just the colour I was looking for!

I’m a little skeptical of these color mascaras. I guess i share the same feelings as you Shannon. I’m seeing more and more of them all ovewr the place, so maybe i’ll try them out when i go out at night. The only thing is what type of shadow are you supposed to use when you wear color mascara? Are you suppose to match it to the mascara or not?

Oh, bummer! I was actually considering getting this, because the teaser from earlier last year had gotten me all excited. However, I’m the kind of girl who NEEDS length and volume. No sense in having fabulous blue stubby anemic lashes. Thanks for the honest review, Shannon!

I like Debbie Gibson! But I have a knack for digging up music, no matter when it was released. This Badgal mascara seems cool, especially since it’s so subtle and not a WHAM! in your face blue. I think it’d make a great, quirky touch for club night.
